The evolution of Lithuanian keyboards is reviewed. Keyboards are divided up to three categories according to flexibility of their adaptation for typing of Lithuanian texts: 1) mechanical typewriter keyboards (heavily adaptable), 2) electromechanical desktop or laptop computer keyboards, and 3) programmable touch screen tablet computer keyboards (easily adaptable). It is discussed how they were adapted for Lithuanian language, with solutions in other languages are compared. Both successful and unsuccessful solutions are discussed. The reasons of failures as well as their negative impact on writing culture and formation of bad habits in the work with computer are analyzed.
